Trouble charging

Just downloaded this app since I had to connect the device. App really doesnt offer anything and for what I will use it for is fine. Turns on and off no problem. The sound from the speaker is great. I like it very much, but the speaker came 40% charged. I used it for a half hour and tried charging it. Its at 30%. It has been turned off to charge. Tried with it turned on as well but wont charge. The battery in the app doesnt show it charging. Maybe Im doing something wrong but charging a device should be a simple process.
